The difference between these two grades is the addition of molybdenum in 316 – 304 does not contain this chloride-resistant mineral. As a result, 316 offers superior corrosion resistance in chloride-rich environments (such as in or around salt water and in chemical processing). 304 tends to be more cost-effective where this level of corrosion-resistance isn’t needed, and is a great choice for projects where salt water and chemical exposure aren’t a concern.
Generally speaking, the greater the diameter of the wire, the more strength and security it can provide. The smaller the diameter, the more flexibility you will have, and the easier it can be to handle and cut.
